What is a Retinol?

Retinol is actually a vitamin A derivative.  It is popular because it can be used on all skin types. The reason it gets so much press is that it improves skin tone, texture and improves fine lines.

At our office, we offer SkinMedica Tri Retinol and Tri Retinol ES (extra strength).  These are medical grade retinols that are stronger than what you can purchase in department stores, yet very affordable.

You can incorporate this product into your night time routine.  We recommend applying a pea sized amount to your entire face at night.  Start out slowly, just 2-3 nights a week, and gradually increase use until you’re using it every night.

There should be no irritation or burning.  If that’s the case, you may be using too much or applying it too often.  We also recommend applying sunscreen every morning, whether you think you’ll be in the sun or not.  If you’re going to be out an extended period of time, make sure you reapply!
